The deadlines

What applies when?

The switch to e-invoices for domestic B2B transactions is happening in stages.

  1. Obligation to receive

All businesses in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices in B2B transactions.

  2. Obligation to issue I

Businesses with prior-year revenue of more than €800,000 must issue e-invoices.

  3. Obligation to issue II

The obligation to issue e-invoices applies to all businesses in B2B transactions.

General information, not legal or tax advice. For transitional rules and special cases, please consult your tax adviser.

How it works

Because all the data is already in the system.

You never type anything twice.

  1. 1

    The customer is already there

Address, contact person and payment behaviour are held in the Contacts module.

  2. 2

    Products are maintained

Net/gross prices, tax rates and invoice texts come from the product catalogue.

  3. 3

    Invoice in one click

The invoice is created in the Finance module – as PDF or as an e-invoice (ZUGFeRD, XRechnung).

  4. 4

    Nothing gets lost

Recurring contracts are invoiced automatically, and dunning reminds you of anything outstanding.

Questions about e-invoicing

What are ZUGFeRD and XRechnung?

ZUGFeRD is a readable PDF with embedded XML: you see the invoice as usual, and the recipient can read in the data automatically. XRechnung is a pure, machine-readable XML format. Both are based on the European standard EN 16931. XRechnung is the standard for e-invoices to public administration in Germany and meets the requirements for e-invoices in B2B transactions.

Is a PDF invoice sent by email an e-invoice?

No. A plain PDF file does not count as an e-invoice under the new rules, because it cannot be processed automatically in a structured way.

Can I still create PDF invoices in the business manager?

Yes. Outgoing invoices in your own corporate design are still possible as PDF – and in addition, the Finance module supports e-invoices with ZUGFeRD and XRechnung.
